Anyone operating electrical systems in explosion-prone areas must conduct regular inspections – and not just by anyone. The Operational Safety Regulation (BetrSichV) explicitly requires a "qualified person for the inspection." This is precisely where the practical seminar offered by the House of Technology (HDT) comes into play.
Why this seminar?
The requirements for Ex systems are increasing – both technically and regulatory. Operators are obligated to conduct regular inspections in a legally secure and documented manner. However, these inspections may only be carried out by individuals who:
- have completed technical training,
- have at least one year of professional experience in explosion protection,
- and have demonstrated their expertise.
The HDT seminar conveys this expertise in a compact and verifiable manner – including a written final examination.
Contents of the seminar at a glance
- Legal Foundations: BetrSichV, TRBS 1201 und TRBS 1203
- Types of explosion protection according to DIN EN 60079-ff.
- Requirements for the planning, installation and maintenance of Ex systems
- Performance and documentation of the tests
- Insight into inspection deadlines, checklists, labeling obligations
- Written examination on specialist knowledge
The aim: Participants are then legally and professionally able to carry out tests on electrical systems in hazardous areas.
Who should take part?
- Qualified electricians and maintenance staff with Ex experience
- Operators of potentially explosive systems
- Safety engineers and responsible persons
- Project managers and specialist planners with a technical background
The requirement is at least one year of practical experience in relevant areas of responsibility.

Why is this relevant for operators?
For many operators, the regulation from Annex 2 Section 3 of the BetrSichV is often only abstract. However, at the latest during the next inspection by authorities or in the event of an incident, it becomes concrete: Only those who are demonstrably qualified are allowed to inspect.
This seminar not only provides you or your employees with specialist knowledge, but also the legal basis for inspection responsibility in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Tip: Refresh your specialist knowledge regularly
According to TRBS 1203, regular updating of expertise is required – a refresher course is recommended at least every 3 years. The HDT also offers suitable programs for this.
Conclusion
🔎 Anyone who operates electrical equipment in Ex zones must have it tested - but not by just anyone. This seminar provides the crucial proof of qualification, legally compliant and practical.
